Markham Museum

A Woven Tale: Textiles in Markham: held at the Reception Centre Gallery The production of textiles in Markham changed dramatically between the decades of the 1830s and the 1890s. The early settlers relied heavily upon itinerant weavers who were scattered throughout the backwoods of Ontario. Once local mills began the production of many different fabrics in Markham, working with textiles evolved into a leisurely and social activity that was primarily enjoyed by girls and women. Many of these unique works of art can still be seen at many Toronto bed & breakfast inns that feature antique decor. This exhibit draws on the many unique items from the Museum collection that work in conjunction to weave the tale of the early Markham experience.

14th Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser

Markham Museum will host its 14th Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser in September of 2009. The price is $45 per person, or if you have a group of 6 the cost is $250. Obviously this event is only for guests aged nineteen years or older, and proper government identification is required to get in. This annual event has sold out for several years, so you will want to obtain tickets in advance for this year or next. The event will showcase local and provincial wineries, top local restaurants, and many local vendors with fabulous merchandize available to buy. Why not skip the visit to your fitness clubs Toronto to come enjoy this fundraiser for the museum. There will also be live music for guests to enjoy as well as winery tours and information.

25th Annual Applefest

Join Markham Museum's 25th annual salute to the wonderful fruit grown locally, the indispensable apple! Cost of admission is very low, at 2 dollars per person, and children enter for free. The Museum operates its very own apple cider mill and offers fresh free samples to visitors. Take a leisurely stroll through their heritage apple orchard, and pick a few of the ripest ones to take home with you. This is sure to be a fun filled weekend for the entire family, which will create lasting memories and strong bonds, so you can avoid that trip to family counseling. Toronto residents have traveled to Markham to enjoy this annual festival for years, so come join in the fun!
